Imphal, September 15 2026:
CLP Leader Keisham Meghachandra has said that the inability to resolve the crisis that began on May 3, 2023 and keeping the people in distress shows that there is nothing trustworthy left about the present BJP Government.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of the threemonth long 70th birthday celebration of renowned writer Kshetrimayum Subhadani held today at Dosuyali Hall, Kwakeithel Moirangpurel Leikai.
The celebration is organised by Kshetrimayum Yaima Memorial Trust.
Meghachandra inaugurated the celebration as chief guest and said that the contribution of writers to Manipuri literature and culture must be honoured.
Describing the 70 th birthday celebration of Subhadani as a Festival of Literature, he said the threemonth long celebration will include poetry recitation, book release, scholarly discourses on the writer and in-depth discussion on language and literature.
On the present situation in Manipur, Meghachandra said the inability to resolve the crisis that started on May 3, 2023 and keeping the people in distress shows that there is nothing trustworthy about the present BJP Government.
That the Government has failed to protect the lives and properties of the people is itself a sign of great frustration of the people, he said.
In her address, Trust chairperson Kshetrimayum Subhadani said she feels pain when thinking about the future of writers in the State.
Manipur society can progress only when the Government and the people respect writers, she said, adding that she is overwhelmed by the Trust organising her 70th birthday celebration.
Her journey as a writer of about 50 years will continue, she said, adding that a major book containing about 2000 pages is being prepared and will be released within December.
The function was presided over by Soubam Tomba Singh, president, Quards Writers Moirang, while former Chairperson of Manipur State Social Welfare Board Dr RK Nayansana Devi and former Principal of Imphal College Laishram Randhoni Devi attended as guests of honour.
As part of the function, Prof Wahengbam Kumari Chanu of Manipur University delivered a special lecture on the topic "Kshetrimayum Subhadani gi chahi 70 gi punshi khongchat ta khunnaigidamak khorirol" .
A Manipuri translation of RK Tamphasana's book "Thamoigi Thaomei" published by the Trust was also released on the occasion.
