Imphal, September 15 2026: Demanding updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) before the population census with 1951 as the base year, students of Ibotonsana Girls Higher Secondary School and Heritage Convent staged a protest demonstration at Uripok today under the aegis of the student's wing of the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) .

Holding placards carrying messages to update the NRC, the students stood in a line along Uripok Road.

Speaking to the media, Khumbongmayum Arish, president of Ibotonsana Girls Higher Secondary School Students' Union, said that they fully support the demand being raised by different organisations to identify illegal immigrants.

Stating that the Government must use 1951 as the base year for updating the NRC in Manipur, she said that fixing any other year as the base year would not constitute an NRC update.
