Ramungo Library Group (RLG), Ukhrul today
organized a one day open climate change dis-
cussion and its impeding impacts at
Phungreitang, reports Mungchan Zimik.
H Hungyo, organizing member, spoke on
the impact of climate change
Because of the rapid depletion of forest,
life has become vulnerable.
It therefore re-
quires extensive campaign, awareness
programme to combat the climate change.
Mass participation to regenerate forest and
inculcate concept the forest reservation are
the need of the hour.
Although the Govern-
ment must have plans and policies to mitigate
the climate change and its impact, it is a
collective responsibility of the general public
to save the environment, Hungyo added.
Kharinpam, Associate Professor, Delhi
University, suggested the need to enact com-
mon policies of all the Tangkhul villages in
order to preserve the rich flora and fauna of
the district.
He also streamlined alternative
approaches to discontinue exploitation of
forest land.
Traditional practice of burning
forest while hunting, use of chemical, exploives and other electrical appliances for fishing have to be
checked and stopped, he further said.
The discussion pro-
gramme which was atten ded by village leaders, social activists
and environ mentalists also suggested to press every Tangkhul
village to formulate policy to conserve reservation and protect
wildlife.
It also decided to urge the State Govt to implement
State action plan on climate change 2014 without further
delay .
