Imphal, July 23 2016 :
The
Working Committee of the
Apunba Lup and the JAC
Against the Brutal Killing of Th
Rabina and Ch Sanjit jointly
observed the 7th death anni-
versary of Rabina and Sanjit at
Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace
Compound today.
The observance was held
in protest against the brutal
killings of Rabina and Sanjit
by Manipur police com-
mando at BT Road on July
23, 2009.
The gathering paid floral
tributes at the photographs of
the duo.
Working Committee of the
Apunba Lup co-ordinator
Phulindro Konsam recounted
the July 23 incident of 2009
where Sanjit and Rabina were
killed in fake encounter.
According to a report sub-
mitted to the State
Government by the Manipur
police, Sanjit was called a
terrorist who indulged in ex-
tortion.
It was when Tehelka,
a News magazine based at
Delhi, published pictures of
the killing of Sanjit that peo-
ple came to know of the true
nature of the killing.
Recently, Head Constable
Herojit confessed in National
media that he shot Sanjit with
his pistol under the order of
the then Additional SP
Jhalajit.
His confessions
proved that both the Chief
Minister and the DGP had
full knowledge of the en-
counter, Phulindro Konsam
alleged.
Similar cases of fake en-
counter happened in other
States of India too, but unlike
in Manipur, such cases are
resolved and the guilty secu-
rity personnel are punished,
Phulindro stated.
The CBI should further investigate the case of Sanjit and Rabina
and file a supplementary chargesheet against those involved in the
killings, Phulindro said while appealing the Government of India
to take up befitting action against the police personnel and others
involved in the killings.
UCM president Elangbam Johnson said even though many
killings committed by State forces have been confirmed to be
clear cases of fake encounter, the culprits have been hardly
punished.
"We must keep track of the proceedings of all such cases
at the Supreme Court," the UCM president stated.
Apunba Lup co-ordinators Ayekpam Langdon Leima, Sunil
Karam and Joy Chingakham, AMKIL advisor Mutum Ibemhal,
Poirei Leimarol vice-president S Memcha, Kanglamei presi-
dent Y Leirik Leima and KWA president AK Memcha Leima
also attended the observance.
