Imphal, December 21, 2013:
Rising criminal activities in Manipur has bothered the Kuki Students Organisation-General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) and said with Christmas day arriving and New Year around the bend, it is time for joy and hope for believers all over the state.
KSO-GHQ said the scars of communal retribution that shows during previous Christmas and New Year season are still etched in the minds of tribal Christians.
The result is very much evident considering the low turn out in shopping and visits in Imphal this year.
The fear psychosis that prevailed among the people was at its zenith and must have been remained so.
The Kuki Students Organisation (KSO), taking strong exception of the prevailing situation during last Christmas, urged the people of the state, its people, NGOs, students bodies not to make past mistake, instead look towards for a merrier and more hopeful new year.
The KSO is for peaceful co-existence through mutual understanding.
Caring for your neighbour and to understand and respect for what they are is the essence of every great religion, the apex Kuki students' body said.
"Therefore, with open hearts let us usher in the peace and love promised by the birth of Christ and also geared up the hope and prosperity promised by the New Year.
This way we will this land of ours a better place to live in.
As such we appeal to all and sundry not to call or impose any kind of bandh and hartal that may be detrimental to peace in society," the apex Kuki students' body stated.
Over and above, the KSO General Headquarters demands the cessation of the gunfights between Kuki underground Sadar Hills and in pockets of Jiribam area so as to let the common people celebrate and revel in the yuletide this Chirstmas and New Season brings, it appealed.
