Imphal, December 21, 2013:
Flaying Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, also in charge of Home, for alleged denial of justice to the state's Muslim minority community, the All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) demanded on Saturday that Gaikhangam quit his post as Home Minister.
SM Zalam, advisor, AMMSO recounted the recent incidents of killing of people from the Muslim community in the state whose justice according to him has been denied by the state Government.
He was talking to reporters at the student body's head office in Hatta here.
It was also attended by representatives of the United Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation (UMMWDO) and Muslim Students' Union of Manipur (MSUM).
He alleged that burning issues of the Muslim community like the sensational killings of Md Sana, class VII student Md Nayimuddin and the Arisma rape case have made unseen cases by the Home Department turning down to take any action till date.
Zalam also expressed unhappiness with the recent allegation made by former DGP of Manipur Police that around 20 Muslims from the state had gone to Al-Qaida for military training.
He accused the Home Department of putting the minority community in bad limelight as if it does not feel the integrity of the state while recalling the statement of the department which had said that about 4,00 Rohingya Muslims fleeing violence in neighbouring Myanmar were taking refuge in Muslim homes here.
"The Home Department should punish those people, but should stop blaming the minority community," Zalam said.
"It's a latest clear example of inability of the Home Department to take appropriate action regarding the recent murder case of Haobijam Manisana, president of Manipur People's Party (MPP) and the series of bomb blasts that had occurred in Imphal," Zalam accused.
Calling Manipur Government a "media tiger," the AMMSO leader also said that it was really unfortunate that the Government had failed to act according to the sentiment of the people over the Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing row.
