Farmers need not fear the National Food Security Act : Md Abdul Nashir

he Federation of Farmer Clubs Manipur celebrated its 4th foundation day today at Irom Meijrao Maning Leikai community hall.
Agriculture and Fishery Minister Md Abdul Nashir, MLA O Lukhoi, president of the federation Kh Ranjit, Fishery Additional Director David K Shimray, Manipur Rural Bank Hiyangthang Branch Manager N Saratchandra, Manipur Rural Bank Nambol Branch Manager N Sharat.
Zenith Academy Director S Manaoton, Little Master English Hr Sec School founder M Thoiba and social activist K Robindro attended the function as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Md Abdul Nashir said that farmers need not fear the National Food Security Act.
The Government is planning to procure food grains from farmers at the market price and then provide the same commodity to the people at a highly subsidised price of Rs 3 per Kg.
David K Shimray said that the total estimated area available and suitable fish farming in Manipur is 56,000 hectares but so far only 18,000 hectares are being used for fish farming.
On the other hand, annual fish productivity of the State is 20,000 metric tonnes as against the annual requirement of 35,000 metric tonnes.
"We have land and there are many unemployed youth but we lack adequate knowledge for managing fish farms successfully", David Shimray said.
As such, there is need for imparting adequate training to fish farmers, he added.
Kh Ranjit said that arrangements have been made to conduct training programmes for fish farmers anywhere at the first available opportunity.
