Imphal, December 21, 2013:
In continuation of its agitation and as decided in its general body meetings held on December 10 and 19, Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) will be launching cease work strike stir from February 1, 2014 as Prof HNK Sarma, Vice-Chancellor of MU has allegedly failed to fulfill almost all the demands of the Association such as implementation of HAG scale, appointment of Pro Vice-Chancellor, Finance Officer, Controller of Examinations, various Directors, filling of faculty positions etc.
In a statement, MUTA said it had already launched a series of protests such as one day mass casual leave on August 1, Non-Co-operation Movement from September 24 to October 31 and total boycott from November 1 till date.
However, there has been no change in the attitude of the Vice-Chancellor in his authoritarian and autocratic style of functioning and non-seriousness towards fulfilling the demands thereby compelling the Association to launch the cease work strike.
Various other forms of protest such as sit-in-protest, mass rally and hunger strike will also be launched to intensify the agitation, the statement added.
