Senapati, November 25 2022:
The All Manipur Health Services Doctors' Association (AMHSDA) has resolved to intensify its ongoing agitation from November 26 onwards by launching relay hunger strike and taking mass casual leave.
In a release, AMHSDA general secretary Dr Lolee P Mao mentioned that the decision was taken during an emergency general body meeting of the association held on November 22 at Amity Hall, Adimjati complex, Chingmeirong.
Addressing media persons at District Hospital, Senapati, AMHSDA general secretary Dr Lolee P Mao stated that the doctors of AMHSDA are not happy with the Government for not taking their demands seriously.
He said that the association submitted its demands nearly two years back, "but the Government denied eight of their demands during a meeting on November 14 last.
Notably, the AMHSDA has been urging the Government to ensure time bound promotion of doctors, raise the superannuation age to 65 years for both specialists and non specialists and amend the proposed 2020 MHS Rules" .
The association alleged that the MHS Rule made in 1982 is outdated.
He further stated that the association decided to postpone their proposed strike to close OPD after a meeting with the Government again on November 18 last in view of the Sangai Festival.
Dr Lolee also claimed that the Government assured to consider their demands within seven days and solve the issue before the end of this month, "but no initiative has been taken up so far" .
Reportedly, the Home Department, during a meeting on November 22 last, said that the demands raised by AMHSDA are not reasonable and illegal.
Dr Lolee asked why the Government is not taking the doctors seriously.
