International contest for young scribes

Urging Manipuri youths to join the Great Silk Way International Youth Union to familiarise with cultural and customary practices of member countries, Union's Asian Zone vice president L Tilotama said the Union would be organising an international contest for young journalists.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, Tilotama elaborated that the Union is an international non-commercial organisation established to coordinate activities of youth organisations and to represent and protect their common interests.
Elucidating that Union members get involved in promoting inter-cultural and inter-religious dialogue, create mutually beneficial collaboration, as well as spread the idea of usage of the youths' potential for sustainable development among the Silk Road countries presently having 28 member countries spread across Asia, Africa and Europe, Tilotama said the Union was conceived at a five-day session held at Baku (Azerbaijan) in June 2012 followed by formal registration under the Ministry of Justice, Azerbaijan in August the same year.
The Union members are also involved in building relations with various organisations to protect interests of the members, organise international training courses and seminars, round-table meetings, exhibitions, charity marathons, cultural events, etc., she explained.
Regarding the contest for young journalists for which submission of articles/essays would be entertained till February 15 and expected to draw participants from 25 countries, Tilotama informed that write-ups should be based on 'role of the country in the Silk Road', 'cultural dialogue between the countries that belong to the historical Silk Road' and 'modern transformation of Silk Road cities.
Journalists in the age group of 18-30 years would be eligible for the contest, further details of which may be confirmed through the Union website www.GSWyouth.org.
