Imphal, January 21 2014 : A combined team of Bishnupur District police commandos and 6 AR arrested one KCP (MC) cadre while conducting a search operation at Ningthoukhong Awang Khunou on Jan 18 .

A statement issued by the PRO of the Police dept identified the arrested man as Haojam Kiran Meetei (25) S/o H Binoy Meetei of Kumbi Uchan Makhong and involved in extortion of money from public of Ningthoukhong and Moirang areas.

In a follow up operation at Kumbi and Saiton villages, three more cadres of the KCP (MC) were arrested, it said.

The arrested men were identified as Oinam Sobha Singh (55) S/o (L) O Thambaljao of Kumbi Uchan Makhong; Wahengbam Nokulchandra Singh (43) S/o W Sanaba of Kumbi Tera Khunou and Thongbam Umakanta Singh (39) S/o (L) Th Churchand Singh of Saiton Bazar.

One CPU which is used for printing demand letters of the KCP (MC) was recovered from the possession of Thongbam Umakanta Singh, it said while adding that a case has been registered with the Bishnupur PS.

In an unrelated incident, Bishnupur police commandos along with women police arrested a woman cadre of KCP on Jan 19 while conducting a search operation at Khongman Zone II .

The PRO statement identified the woman as Naorem (N) Athokpam (O) Bandana Devi (42) W/o (L) A Purnima Singh of Khongman Zone-II.

Two 9mm caliber pistols and 17 live rounds were recovered from her possession.

She along with the recovered arms were handed over to Irilbung PS.

Meanwhile, the Narcotics Affairs of Border (NAB) Manipur in coordination with 26 Sector AR destroyed poppy plant cultivation at Joumol, Tupiching, Chelzang, Ngalbulkun, Hengmol and areas near BP 53 from Jan 10-14.During the operation, 107.8 acres of poppy cultivation areas were destroyed and more than one crore poppy plants were uprooted, it said while also adding that six separate cases have been registered at NAB/PS and investigation is on.

PLA cadre held: One cadre of RPF/PLA was arrested during a search operation conducted by Bishnupur District Police ahead of the Republic Day in Ngaikhong Khunou areas this morning.

The arrested RPF/PLA cadre is one Maisnam Khamba (35) s/o late Chandreshore of Ngaikhong Khunou Ward No 10, informed a source.

Bishnupur Police conducted a cordon and search operation in the area starting from 3 am till 7 am.

Altogether 19 persons were pulled up for re-verification and Khamba was found among them.

On the other hand, Imphal West District Police led by DSP (Cdo) Dr S Ibomcha conducted a similar search operation at Naorem Leikai this morning.

Personnel of 40th Assam Rifles and 4th IRB also took part in the search operation.

Altogether 28 persons were taken to Singjamei police station for re-verification.
