Sagolband AC MLA RK Imo along with Art and Culture Director K Sobita and high ranking officials today inspected Khongnang Hogaibi to develop the area as a historical site.
K Sobita said that Government of Manipur, Secretariat Art and Culture Department had declared Khongnang Hogaibi, a peepal tree located at Waheng Leikai, Sagolband Road, Imphal covering an area of 20' X 18' as protected remains/sites under Sub-Section (i) of Section 4 of the Manipur Ancient and Historical and Monument and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1976 in the interest of the public on March 19 this year.
It is an important historical site as king Charainongba breathed his last there some 300 years ago, she added.
Sobita said that necessary funds to develop the area would be included in the State Plan.
RK Imo said that it is a positive initiative to protect the area as a historical site.
He added that anybody can raise objection within stipulated two month's time against the Government's plan.
Once the site is declared protected, necessary steps to develop the area would be taken up, he added.
