Secretary general, CADA, Dipanjit Ningthoujam, CADA organisation secretary Nepram Bimola and Chingkham Shyam, CADA advisor, Bishnupur district were the general speaker of the event.
In his speech, Dipanjit Ningthoujam elaborated on drug usage among youth.
He said, perhaps, tobacco is the start off product for most drug users.
Youth tend to emulate adults behaviour which, unfortunately, leads directly to addiction in the youth.
Drugs could break down the central nervous system which may cause impaired intelligence.
According to Health Minister, Phungzathang Tonsin, about 50 per cent of the state's population uses tobacco.
The speaker, therefore, questioned concerned authorities as to why these illegal products are permitted open sale in the State.
Chingakham Shyam opined that it is high time that people of the State stand up to fight against the growing use of these illegal drugs among the youth.
Most of the crimes, N Bimola added, are driven by intoxicants.
Cases of husband killing his wife, sons attacking father are all such examples of intoxicant driven crimes.
Guest of honour, Nongmaithem Iboton, chief guest Yumnam Ratan and president Th Manglembi also spoke on the event.
Moreover, a similar one day public meeting to discuss the effects of drugs on younger generations would be held tomorrow at Phumlou Community Hall, Th Manglembi informed.
