Hectic preparations underway for Hiyanglam by-poll

Hectic preparations are underway to conduct the Hingyalam by-poll in Manipur's Thoubal district on October 15 after the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued the poll notification yesterday.
Ahead of the crucial by-poll, the Manipur unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday held an emergency meeting to discuss and choose party's right candidate.
The meeting also set up a Management Committee in connection with the poll with party's president Th Chaoba as chairman.
A 32-member Campaign Committee of the state BJP was also formed during the meeting.
The Manipur BJP decided to hold another meeting on September 15 to select its candidate for the Hiyanglam by-poll, party sources said.
Maibam Dhanabir, son of late MLA Maibam Kunjo of Hiyanglam constituency and Y Radheshyam, a former leader of the state Communist Party of India (CPI) are seeking the BJP ticket to fight the by-poll.
Hiyanglam seat has been left vacant after its sitting MLA Maibam Kunjo of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee (MPTCC) passed away recently.
Last date for filing of nomination is September 27.The scrutiny will be conducted on September 29 and last date for withdrawal of nomination paper is October 1.The counting will take place on October 19 .
