Imphal, November 12 2011:
Announcing that a silent public rally would be held in Imphal on November 17 in denunciation of the memorandum of understanding signed recently between the Government of Manipur and Sadar hills Districthood Demand Committee, rally organisers Committee Against the Creation of Sadar Hills district (CACSHD) cautioned the State authorities against any attempt to disrupt the proposed rally.
Any attempt to thwart the silent procession from any section including Government agencies will be violation of the Indian Constitution, said Committee release issued by its co-convenor M Panam while prevailing upon the Government that preventing the citizens from exercising their constitutional rights will tantamount to suppression of the citizens of an democratic country.
The proposed rally is mainly to express people's dissatisfaction on the MoU as it was signed without taking into account sentiment and aspiration of the 'affected people' whose place of settlement falls under the ambit of Sadar hills district, said the co-convenor while accusing the Government of fulfilling only the interest of the Kukis.
Pointing out that the Zeliangrong people's demand for merger of areas under Churachandpur and Sadar Hills in Senapati district to Tamenglong district is not a new development, the Committee statement also mentioned that relevant documents based on historical background and evidences had been submitted at a hearing of the Government-constituted Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundary.
As such un-necessary delay in honouring demand for amalgamation of Zeliangrong areas to Tamenglong district will only lead to widespread protest from the Zeliangrong people, it cautioned.
