Imphal, November 12 2011:
The United Naga Council approached Union Home Minister P Chidambaram during his recent visit to the State to arrange a meeting with a ministerial team of the Government of Manipur.
When P Chidambaram and Chief Minister Okram Ibobi visited Senapati to inaugurate the district minisecretariat on November 2, the UNC made the proposal for dialogue with the Government of Manipur through the Union Home Minister, conveyed a source.
To the UNC's proposal to arrange a meeting with a ministerial team of the Government of Manipur, P Chidambaram reportedly stated that he would put the proposal to the State Government.
Informing that the State Government has not taken any decision to hold dialogue with the UNC this time, the source said that no UNC leaders came out even as the Government of Manipur sent a ministerial team to Senapati for dialogue earlier.
Another ministerial team led by TN Haokip aborted a scheduled meeting with the UNC on the charge that the latter's demands were not spelt out clearly.
It is also informed that the UNC urged the Union Home Minister to ask the State Government that the Committee on District and Police Boundary Re-organisation hold its meeting at Senapati.
Notably, the committee was constituted by the State Government in the wake of the demand for creation of Sadar Hills as a full fledged district.
However, the Government has not taken any decision regarding the UNC's demand to hold public hearing at Senapati.
