Imphal, November 12 2011:
Two civilians have been severely assaulted and tortured to the extent of being subjected to electric shock by some people clad in combat dress.
The victims who were later released have been identified as Thounaojam Rajen (52) of Moirang Khunou Makha Leikai and Ingudam Manja alias Priyokumar (37) of Bamdiar.
Speaking to media persons, Thounaojam Rajen said that he and Manja went to Keirenphabi to see Manja's girl friend last afternoon.
As they reached Keirenphabi, some suspected personnel rushed out from Bhubon High School.
Soon, their hands were tied and they were blindfolded.
On being enquired why they were being detained, the unidentified persons responded by slapping them.
Then they were thrown into a vehicle, Rajen recounted.
Later Rajen and Manja were subjected to intense interrogation and water was poured over them all the while making their ordeal that much more painful.
They asked Rajen in Manipuri where his brother-in-law (husband of his wife's sister) Khangembam Amita was and where Amita hid his guns.
As he replied that he had no idea about the whereabouts of Amita and his gun(s), Rajen was given electric shock.
The abductors even threatened to shoot dead Manja.
Later, they were set free on the road between Thangalawai Kangshoibi and Kumbi.
They could reach their homes at about 11 pm.
Rajen said that they have not reported the matter to police out of shame.
