Imphal, November 24 2011:
With the ongoing cease work strike failing to convince the State government honour their demand for payment of monthly salary in line with the recommendation of the Sixth Central Pay Commission, teachers under the Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) said it will stage sit-in-protest to highlight their plight.
Speaking to newspersons at TG Higher Secondary School premises here today, COTA convenor Ch Shantakumar said numerous reminders sent to the State authorities to comply with the Pay Commission recommendation has failed to evoke positive response till date.
While employees in many other State departments had been drawing salary as recommended by the Commission, the teaching community are being discriminated upon, he contended while claiming that even the Prime Minister, through the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, had sought a detailed report from the Government of Manipur on the delay in implementing the 6th Central Revised Pay scale to the teachers.
Having reluctantly resorted to cease work strike with the belief that the Government will favourably consider demand of COTA members but to no avail till date, the only other option left to air the grievances in through sit-in-protest, the convenor expressed.
It is informed that from tomorrow onwards, COTA members will stage sit-in-protest at TG, Johnstone, Churachand and Anand Singh higher secondary schools.
