Imphal, September 26 2015 :
Following the allegations made by the tribal community of Churachandpur that live bullet rounds were fired from one battery workshop on September 1 in the mass protest which erupted after the Manipur State Government passed three Bills, the shop owner today clarified that incident of bullet being fired from the shop never happened.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, S Mani, owner of M/S Mani Battery Workshop clarified that before the mass protest erupted in Churachandpur against the three Bills, they were at Phoubakchao Ikhai Maning Leikai which is along the Imphal Churachandpur road from August 30 .
"When we were at Phoubakchao, how can we fire bullets from the shop besides the shop was closed from August 30", he added.
A local daily published in Churachandpur has reported that live bullets were fired from the shop which never was.
Saying that the report was baseless, he demanded clarification from the daily.
Further he said that the protesters vandalized the battery shop located at Moia Veng besides looting all the machinery and other expensive materials from the shop and the house built above the shop was also burnt down.
Targeting the shop is very unfortunate.
Such activities might sow seeds of communal tension and communal hatred.
People should restrain from such unethical attitude against a minor community of Churachandpur, added S Premabati elder sister of Mani.
Later, Mani urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter as the family has been facing severe financial constrains as the battery workshop was the only source of income.
