Imphal, September 26 2015 :
Manipur People's Party (MPP) has strongly condemned the incident where drivers of around 20 trucks were looted by a group of heavily armed men suspected to be NSCN (IM) cadres on the intervening midnight of September 23 and 24 in between Nungkao and Maku along National Highway 37 .
A press release signed by general secretary (Publicity) of MPP, Y Bhim Singh alleged that frequent looting of trucks by organizations which are under ceasefire or SoO along Imphal-Jiribam road and Imphal-Dimapur road is taking place as the Army and Paramilitary Forces are doing nothing against such cases.
It questioned if AFSPA is applicable only to a particular community or the people of valley.
MPP also asked the Government if the Act is not applicable to those who are carrying out loots along the National Highways and those who are trying to disintegrate Manipur.
MPP blamed the Manipur Government and Home Department for providing insufficient number of security escort personnel to the trucks along the National Highways which had led to the looting and urged the authorities to look into the matter at the earliest.
