Manipur Tourism Department has started its programme on World Tourism Day on Saturday at Santhei Natural Park of Andro, Imphal East.
The World Tourism Day on September 27 will be organised by the Tourism Department on the topic "One Billion Tourists, One Billion Opportunities" at Santhei Natural Park.
Saturday's programme was attended by Manipur Government's Consultant RK Nimai (IAS) as chief guest, Secretary of Tourism Department, Government of Manipur Nidhi Mani Tripathi (IAS) as president while Director of Tourism Department Shyam Lal Punya (IAS) and village chief of Andro Chingakpham Gandhar Meetei as guests of honour.
RK Nimai said that Andro has been selected as the venue for the celebration so that people can see the natural beauty in rural areas.
Andro village which is not far away from Imphal city has its own distinct character in preserving age-old tradition, said Nimai.
He said that the village has many historical tourist spots, apart from the popular Santhei Natural Park.
Andro villagers have been playing a big role in conserving the tradition and its beauty, Nimai said.
But tourists can be attracted only when the spots are developed well, he suggested.
