Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today lauded the efforts of Thoubal Zilla Parishad, Khangabok Gram Panchayat and the officials of State Adult Education Department on winning the Saakshar Bharat Award 2015 .
The Chief Minister handed over the award to the Adhya-ksha of Thoubal Zilla Parishad Kh Surnalata Devi at a simple felicitation function held at the CM office complex today.
It may be recalled that the award was presented by President Pranab Mukherjee and was received by Education Minister M Okendra Singh on the International Literacy Day 2015 on September 8, 2015 at New Delhi organised by the National Literacy Mission Authority, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
The Khangabok Part II Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district was awarded Saakshar Bharat Award for best performing Gram Panchayat along with four other Gram Panchayats from other States of the country.
This year, altogether 11 Saakshar Bharat Awards were distributed by the President of India to States, districts, blocks, Gram Panchayats, State Resource Centres (SRC) and Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS) for best performance in the field of adult education and skill development.
Education Minister M Okendra Singh, O Landhoni Devi, MLA Khangabok A/C, BB Sharma, Principal Secretary Adult Education, officials of Adult Education Department and members of Thoubal Zilla Parishad and Pradhans and members of Khangabok GP were present at the function.
