Imphal listed for AMRUT

Imphal has been included among 500 cities selected by the Union Ministry of Urban Development for Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) .
The mission has been proposed to take up in the cities whose population is above one lakh.
After the Centre selected Imphal, which has around 2.6 lakh people, for the mission, a meeting has been held with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, who also holds MAHUD portfolio, in the chair today.
Top officials from MAHUD, PHED, Transport Department, PDA and IMC attended the meeting.
The project would address the needs of important components of a city like water supply, sewerage, septic tanks, drainage and transportation etc, said a source.
It was decided in today's meeting to give thrust to water supply in Imphal city under the project, the source added.
It further said that the project is aimed at covering 70 per cent of the total population of the city.
It was also decided in the meeting to entrust Imphal Municipal Corporation as the nodal agency for the project.
A detailed project report in this regard would be sent to the Centre after consulting PHED, Transport Department and PDA within October 10, the source added.
50 per cent of the total project cost would be provided by the Centre while another 50 per cent would be borne by the State, the source said and added that the project would be completed within five years.
The Centre would provide Rs 50,000 crore for the project, added the source.
