Imphal, September 26 2015 :
The Irabot Celebration Committee obser-ved the 64th death anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot at Irabot Bhavan here today.
The gathering led by Moi-rangthem Ibohal who was once a close associate of Hi-jam Irabot offered floral tri- butes at the statue of the late leader.
CPI central committee chairman B Sharma, Irabot Celebration Committee chairman N Mangi, CPI State Secretary Dr M Nara and many other party leaders attended the commemorative function.
Speaking on the occasion, N Mangi stated the main objectives of the commemo- rative function are protection of Manipur's integrity, promotion of hill-valley unity and collective struggle towards Irabot's vision for an egalitarian society.
Hailing Irabot as one common leader of all communities who struggled relentlessly for socio-economic and political development of Manipur, Mangi remarked that the Government of India has released a postal stamp of Jananeta Irabot whereas the State Government has declared September 30, Irabot's birth anniversary as State holiday.
It was Irabot's objection against the proposal to form Purvanchal Pradesh with its capital at Silchar after merging together Manipur, Tripura, Cachar and Lushai Hills which forced him to go underground.
He breathed his last at Tangbo-Sedo, Myanmar on September 26, 1951 .
Dr Nara remarked that Jananeta Irabot's legacy is becoming more and more alluring although it has been 64 years since he died.
Irabot is today the most popular leader of the people of Manipur.
It's time for all the people of Manipur to recall Irabot's selfless efforts to preserve Manipur's hill-valley integrity and protect all the indigenous people of the land, Dr Nara said.
Meanwhile, the Irabot Celebration Committee has named senior journalist Irengbam Arun for the Thiyam Meghachandra Journalist Award 2015, carpenter Chingtham Kullachandra of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai for the Hijam Achou Shinmi Award 2015 and political and social activist Oinam Munal for the Thokchom Achouba Award 2015 .
