Manipur Environment Calendar 2016 released

The 'Manipur Environment Calendar 2016' was released today by the Forest and Environment, Revenue and Law and Legislative Affairs Minister Th Debendra at his Old Secretariat office.
Addressing media persons, Debendra stated that the Directorate of Environment has been playing an important role in the conservation of the environment by conducting various scientific studies.
The calendar will serve as an important messenger to the people of Manipur for conservation and preservation of the ecosystem and environment.
With the changing global scenario of climate change and global warming, the role of the Directorate has multiplied in addressing the public for environment conservation, he said.

He added that Environment Directorate was upgraded into a full fledged one in 2011 and now the Directorate has been reorganised with the appointment of 22 officers.
Further, he said that for Environment Clearance (EC), the Directorate has received 50 proposals from different departments.
So far the Directorate of Environment has received 25 proposals from different departments for Social Impact Assessment (SIA) on land acquisition.
For wetland conservation, the Directorate has identified 21 wetlands for conservation, and a State Action Plan on climate change has been prepared, the Minister added.
Highlighting various works taken up by the Directorate during 2015-16, he added that improvement works for Ningshingkhun Biodiversity Park, Jiribam was completed and conservation works of Yaral Pat was also initiated.
Improvement of biodiversity conservation and beautification of Irong Water body, Eco-Park at Mayangkhang Senapati, Seloi Eco-Park Imphal East, eco-development of Kangla and State Botanical Garden at Khonghampat were initiated, he added.
Further he said that 15 Automated Weather Monitoring Stations were installed to monitor micro-climate of the State.
The existing Environment Monitoring, Research and Development Laboratory has been upgraded with sophisticated equipment.
He maintained that the National Adaptation Programme for Climate Change on Model Carbon Positive Eco-Village at Phayeng and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Environment Facilities Project on renewable energy and energy efficiency are in the pipeline.
