2 convicted for hunting Wainu

Imphal, December 28 2015:
Two persons namely Sagolsem Hemanta Meitei and Yumnam Dhanajit Meitei of Thamnapokpi village under Lamlai PS of Imphal West district have been convicted by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East today for hunting two Common Cranes locally known as Wainu.
According to a statement issued by the DFO, Central Forest Division, Manipur, the two persons have been convicted with imprisonment for eight days and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 .
Acting on an information, the two persons were arrested by a combined team of Lamlai PS and members of PFA, Manipur on Dec 20, said the statement.
Two 12-bore SBBL guns bearing No 27005-11 and No 10267-10 used in committing the offence by the accused persons have also been confiscated under Section 39 and Section 51 (C) of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 .
Further, the Court has cancelled gun license number 1532/DM/IE and 399-06-ADC/KPI under Section 51 (2) (3) (4) of the Act, it said.
W Devkumar Singh, OC, Lamlai PS and Thongam Narendra Kumar Singh, PFA Manipur and his team were rewarded with a cash amount of Rs 2,500 each under Section 60 (A) of the Act, it added.
