Senapati DHS, NTEP observes 40th World Tuberculosis Day

Joining the rest of the world, the District Health Society, National TB Elimination Program (NTEP), Senapati observed the 40th World TB Day at DRDA Hall under the theme "The Clock is Ticking".
The programme was attended by Losii Dikho, Minister PHE, Printing & Stationery, Manipur; Th Kirankumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati and Dr Pfokreho Pfoze, Chief Medical Officer, Senapati as the presidium members.
Speaking as the chief guest, Minister Losii Dikho stated that the present State government is emphasizing on the health sector for the betterment of people in the state.
Recalling his childhood, he said that he has a deep admiration of doctors and health workers for their immense services towards the well being of the society.
He applauded the district health workers for their immense contribution in the state and appealed to the members present to take up active participation in eliminating the disease.
The Minister further stated that in order to tackle water scarcity problems in the district headquarters, the PHE department has been trying its best to inaugurate the Mega Water project of the district by the end of the month.
where the Chief Minister would come to inaugurate the project.
Addressing the programme, Th Kirankumar stated that the main focus in the district towards the elimination of TB is the notification through blood test, X- Ray detection, writing down the name of person purchasing the medicine in the Pharmacy and reporting suspected TB persons to the health workers like ASHA.
He suggested Health Worker, CSO's, village leaders and Anganwadi workers to join hands for tactical mock drill exercises and urged the gathering to not shy away from declaring oneself as a TB patient as the treatment of TB is available at free of cost.
Dr Pfokreho Pfoze also highlighted the Mandatory TB notification Gazette for private practitioners, chemists and public health staff under the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme, which was notified by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
He also appealed to the members present especially the Health Worker to take active initiative in notifying the TB patients to DTO.
Dr L Muanching, DTO, Senapati in her keynote address stated that World TB Day is a flagship of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme which is observed every year on March 24 since 1882 so as to commemorate the discovery of 'Mycobacterium tuberculosis' by Dr Robert Koch.
It is also observed to generate awareness about TB and mobilize political and social commitment to fight against TB, she added.
Later, different health institutions in the district participated in the role play/drama competition on 'TB and its treatment' where Bendramai PHC, Tadubi PHC and Maram PHC took first, second and third position respectively.
The programme was also attended by DLO's, various CSO's, Health workers like ASHA and survivors of the contagious disease.
