MHRC directs State to submit status report on Sessions Court at Jiribam

The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has directed the respondents concerned to submit the status report on the establishment of District and Sessions Court at Jiribam on or before April 19, 2021 to the commission.
The respondents are the State of Manipur represented by its Chief Secretary, Registrar General of the High Court of Manipur, Law Secretary of the State Government, Jiribam DC, Chief Engineer of PWD and Executive Engineer of Jiribam.
The direction was given by the Chairperson of MHRC, Khaidem Mani after hearing the complaint petition filed by one social worker Ahongshangbam Surendrakumar from Borobekra, Jiribam.
In his complaint to the MHRC, A Surendrakumar apprised that 7 District and Sessions Courts and 2 Additional District and Sessions Courts (Fast Track Court) are opened in the State.
Of these Courts, the farthest are at Ukhrul, Senapati and Churachandpur, but no such Court is opened at Jiribam which is about 225 kilometres from Imphal and settled by about 60,000 people of different communities, said the complainant and added that this absence is causing untold inconvenience to poor litigants and the people of the new district.
The complainant also said that memoranda have also been sent to the Prime Minister, Union Minister for Law and Justice, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Law & Legislative Affairs Minister pertaining to this matter.
