MCPCR petitions CS over closure of Catholic schools

Taking cognizance of the closure of several Catholic schools of Imphal since the past few days, the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has urged the Chief Secretary to instruct the Secretary (Education), Director of Education (S), Govt of Manipur to make arrangement for immediate reopening of the schools.
In a representation to the Chief Secretary, the acting chairperson of MCPCR, K Maharabi Singh highlighted that Catholic schools have been closed down since April 7, affecting the academic career of the students.
The closure of the schools amounts to serious violation of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 .
Demanding that the current impasse affecting the schools be settle jointly by the head of Catholic Society, Education Department, students' bodies and other concerned without causing any disturbance to the academic career of the students, the MCPCR also sought action taken report on this matter.
