MCPCR urges Govt to reopen Catholic schools

Imphal, April 17 2015 :
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) on Friday urged the Government to immediately reopen the Catholic Schools which have been closed since April 7 .
In the statement signed and forwarded to the Chief Secretary of Manipur by Acting Chairperson K Maharabi, the Commission viewed the closure is against the Right of Children to free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 .
MCPCR requested the Chief Secretary to give instruction to the Education Secretary, Director of Education (S), Government of Manipur to arrange reopen the schools immediately so as to enable the children and teachers to go their schools for the best interest of the children.
He urged to bring about an amicable solution to the current problem jointly supported from the Head of Catholic School Society, Education Department, Students Bodies and others responsible organizations without hindrance to teachers and school going students and furnish an action taken to this Commission at the earliest.
The statement further said that MCPCR has been entrusted with the duties of monitoring of Child's Rights to Education as defined under the RTE Act 2009 .
Attention of the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights was attracted to closure of the catholic schools since April 7 .
