Imphal, March 24 2021:
Some Corporators of the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) have denounced a "Government notification to conduct delimitation in Thangmeiband Constituency to change or modify polling stations of four Wards" .
The Department of MAHUD (Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development) had issued the notification on March 18 to readjust/modify electorates of Ward No 1, 2, 3 and 25 .
Asking why the "delimitation" is planned for Thangmeiband Constituency only, four Corporators of IMC Ward No 1, 2, 3 and 25 today said they cannot agree with the notification.
At the common room of the Imphal Municipal Corporation, Ward No 3 Corporator H Nutanchandra said the Government should roll back the notification and its decision to conduct the 'delimitation'.
IMC has 27 Wards and as such the plan to conduct the 'delimitation' in only four Wards is not just.
Thangmeiband Constituency has a population of about 28-29 thousand comprising people from different communities including Meetei/Meitei, Kabui, Tangkhul, Kuki and non-Manipuris.
Hastiness in the conduction of the 'delimitation' could result in errors in the process and disturb the peaceful environment in the Constituency, he added.
The 'delimitation', if inevitable, should be conducted after thorough deliberation and careful planning.
The Government should revoke the order it released in haste, he said urging people to be aware of the planned delimitation and the situation it has created.
He also appealed to Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his Government to promote the peaceful and harmonious environment in the Constituency.
