Civil Aviation Minister lays foundation stone for hangar

Imphal, February 22 2019:
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu laid the foundation stone for construction of a hangar, associated apron and link taxiway at Imphal Airport, worth Rs 3408.60 lakhs today.
The laying of the foundation stone for the airport infrastructure was done through video link between Imphal Airport and New Delhi during a function organized by Airports Authority of India.
Lok Sabha MP Dr Thokchom Meinya unveiled the foundation stone erected at the premise of Imphal International Airport in the presence of MANITRON Chairman Dr Radheshyam Yumnam, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C MLA S Subhaschchandra and AAI, Imphal Director among others.
Speaking at the function, Meinya described the laying of the foundation stone for construction of infrastructure at Imphal International Airport as a remarkable moment.
Pointing out that the condition of Imphal International Airport and flight services have improved considerably, the MP maintained that the airport will have facilities for parking aircrafts and late night flight services once the construction of hangar, associated apron and link taxiway is completed.
Apart from highlighting inauguration and laying of foundation stones for setting up various infrastructure at other airports, the speech given by the Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation at New Delhi was also displayed live through video links during the function.
According to the officials of AAI, Ministry of DoNER/NEC proposed to AAI for constructing of aircraft maintenance hangars at Imphal Airport to facilitate early morning flights and better air-connectivity within NER and the rest of the country.
As of now, NCC's hangars are being used to park the choppers which are being engaged in Manipur Heli Service.
The construction of the hangar will be for A-321 aircraft and the dimension of the apron is 60m x 68m and the taxiway is 290m (length) x 23m (width) with shoulders, the officials added.
