Startup policy to bring talented youth back in the State: CM

Leader of the House as well the Chief Minister of the State N Biren Singh informed the House today that the people of the State are aware about the Manipur Startup Policy.
He made the statement during the Question Hour on the third day of the ongoing 7th Session of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly Session.
Stating that various entrepreneurs with innovative ideas have applied for the policy, he said that the policy has encouraged the educated unemployed youth, who were once working outside the State, to come back home.
Replying to a starred question moved from Surjakumar Okram, MLA, Khangabok Assembly Constituency, the Leader of the House said that the key component of the Startup Policy is talented entrepreneurs with innovative ideas who are able to produce quality products and generate employment.
He informed the House that 334 beneficiaries were selected (round 1) for the year 2017-2018 out of 728 applicants while a fund of Rs 30 crore has been released (2017-2018).He said 3,966 people have applied for the policy this year.
The Chief Minister informed the House that the selected beneficiaries need to undergo a three month training course and added that the fund will be released after completion of the training.
He assured the Government will increase the fund in consultation with the Planning Department whenever required.
L Jayanta Kumar, Art and Culture Minister informed the House that Manipur State Film and Television Institute will start functioning from August this year.
Informing that procurement of equipments and e-tender has begun, he said the department is trying to improve the infrastructure of the Institute first.
Regarding Manipur Cultural University, he said it is functioning in full swing with 404 students are enrolled at present.
Stating that Art and Culture is the pride of the State, he informed the House that there is a need to enhance the fund for the Art and Culture Department.
He further underlined the need for amendment of Culture Policy in consultation with an expert committee.
He was responding to a query from MLA Surjakumar Okram.
