Public meeting cum rally held

The North East Dialogue Forum in collaboration with Social Youth Development Organisation and People for Human Right and Climate Change and Environment Conservation Network organised a public meeting cum rally on rights of farmers and climate changes at Kakching Khunou on September 15 .
The meeting was attended by Kh Tejmani Singh, Retd Assistant Teacher, Kakching Khunou Government High School, M Khomdon Singh, Retd Headmaster, Kakching Khunou Government High School and M Chandramani Singh, Retd Assistant Teacher, Kakching Khunou Government High School as presidium members.
The public meeting stressed on the impact of climate change on farmers and the Manipur State Action Plan on Climate Change which was introduced by the State Government on 2013 but has not yet been implemented by the department concerned.
During the public meeting, the gathering resolved to demand the State Government to publish the action plan in the public domain so as to allow the farmers adopt alternative cropping systems when required.
The meeting also emphasised on the need to stop construction of mega dams in the State and instead maintain the existing dams in good condition to effectively use them.
It further called upon the Central Agricultural University, Manipur to initiate research for appropriate cultivation of food crops.
The gathering later took out a rally after the meeting was held.
