Community awareness held

Social Environment and Cultural Organisation (SECO), Khordak Nongmaikhong conducted a one-day community awareness programme on the theme 'Save Loktak Lake' today at Khordak Awang Leikai community hall, Bishnupur.
Written proposal for a joint survey of the Nongmaikhong to Khangadong lake of Khordak, removal of Phumdi as a means to restore the Khordak canal, removal of regulator dam at Khordak, improvement of approach road to Nimai Panjeng and Ungmen Khongjin, construction of RCC bridge at Khordak Awang Leikai and provision of special livelihood schemes to Khordak and Nongmaikhong villagers were served to the Project Director of Loktak Development Authority (LDA), National Hydro Power Corporation Ltd.(NHCP) and the Deputy Conservator of Forest (Park and Sanctuary), Manipur by residents of Khordak and Nogmaikhong during the awareness programme.
The awareness programme was attended by LDA Project Director L Bhagaton, NHEPC Ltd Chief Engineer VK Karan and Deputy Conservator of Forest (Park and Sanctuary) Arun RS.
Speaking at the occasion, VK Karan said the approach to save Loktak lake needs enormous support from the public.
NHPC Managing Director has informed the Chief Minister's office regarding the people's demand for removal of regulator dam at Khordak.
He said NHPC had no role in the framing of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Loktak multipurpose project.
The project's DPR was introduced by the State Government in 1960s.NHPC has merely been following the set DPR of the project by the State Government.
The corporation will, however, attempt to address the greivances of the public in the best possible way, the Deputy Conservator of Forest stated.
