Imphal, July 14 2012:
The Thirteen-day long Monsoon Book Fair came to a close today at Nupi Lal Memorial Complex.
The book fair, a joint initiative of reputed publishing houses of the country including Penguin, Viva, Bookline and Handsome Book House, Imphal was opened on July 2 .
The book fair has been started since 2001 with the objectives of providing good quality books to the students as well as general public, which are otherwise unavailable in the markets.
Significantly, this reporter witnessed a very low turn-out at the fair today.
When asked, one of the organisers candidly admitted that the over-all turn out of book enthusiasts and lovers was much lower this year comparing to the previous ones.
Ksh Rajesh, a research scholar of Manipur University, a regular visitor to the book fair every year, said the books on displayed was below his expectation.
The organisers should give more emphasis to books that have direct bearings with the curriculum, he suggested.
