Govt schools set for spruce-up

With a vision to bring a sound education system in the State, the Government is working to provide more facilities to Government schools like those provided in private schools, claimed Education Minister M Okendro.
The Education Minister was speaking as chief guest at the fifth felicitation function of meritorious students and sportspersons organised by the Network for Social Advancement at ABA Ground, Kshetri Mayai Leikai today.
He observed that the recent trend of felicitating meritorious students has many merits.
Education Department of the State which existed only for name's sake a few years back was identified to the whole country when Md Ismat won first position in the all India CBSE exam.
Underscoring the need for human resource development in the State, Okendro highlighted the importance of dedicated teachers, Headmasters, DIs, AIs and Directors in bringing a sound education system.
Noting that a huge amount of money is being spent on education of Manipuri students outside the State, Okendro claimed that the Government has initiated a number of measures to get rid of dependence on other States for higher education.
In his speech, Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir who was guest of honour of the function highlighted the need for a collective struggle so as to save young students from the scourge of drug abuse.
In his presidential speech, Kshetrigao AC MLA Md Amin Shah said that the whole responsibility of making the education system sound and competitive cannot be put on the shoulders of the Government alone.
It needs community participation and there are huge roles for students, teachers, parents and local guardians, Amin Shah stated.
He called upon all to make Manipur a centre of human resource excellence despite its economic backwardness.
Later, meritorious and other awards were distributed to outstanding sportspersons and meritorious students who came out with flying colours in exams conducted by BSEM, COHSEM, CBSE, UPSC, MPSC as well as other competitive like MBBS, AIEEE, NDA etc.
The function was also attended by MLAs S Bira, Prithiviraj, E Chand, Chairman of Manipur State Minorities Commission Helim Choudhury and IYC Manipur State president Md Amir Hussain.
