Bridge collapse infuriates Minister

A newly constructed RCC bridge over Leishang Hiden canal at Canchipur sank this afternoon.
On learning about the incident, Works Minister Ratankumar came to the spot and inspected the sunken bridge.
While talking to the local people, the Works Minister assured that a departmental enquiry would be conducted to find out the causes of the sinking and befitting action would be initiated against all those found guilty.
It is reported that the bridge built near Kyamgei Pal Ahanbi sank when earth was excavated using excavator close to its western pillars for construction of bore-well.
The bridge which was about 30 metres in length and seven metres in width (without footpath) was constructed by contractor N Ibochouba of Chingamakha last year.

On noticing the sunken bridge, people of the neighbourhood immediately informed local MLA K Thamarjit and the bridge was closed.
After this, Works Minister Kh Ratankumar, MLA K Thamarjit, Principal Secretary (Works) Ram Muivah, Chief Engineer N Lokendro and other officials came to the spot and inspected the collapsed bridge.
On behalf of the people, Thamarjit appealed to the Works Minister either to build the bridge anew or repair the existing one without any delay for the particular bridge was a crucial link to NH 2 for the people of Kyamgei, Kyamgei Muslim, Kongba Irong, Bashikhong, Arapti etc.
After hearing the comments of MLA Thamarjit and the local people, Dr Ratankumar assured that the departmental enquiry would be instituted.
Based on the report of the enquiry, befitting actions would be initiated against any one found guilty.
The Works Minister stated that a wooden bridge would be constructed in place of the collapsed RCC bridge as an ad-hoc measure.
