'Ukhrul DC extended possible help to stranded passengers'

In the wake of allegations made against the Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner by some organisation in local media, a clarification has been made to clear misconception among the section of people in the district regarding the issue of stranded people in Imphal recently.
Official sources on Friday said the District Administration arranged 15 vehicles comprising buses and other small vehicles to bring back the stranded Ukhrul passengers during the recent general strike imposed by Film Forum Manipur.
It stated that the entire evacuation process was undertaken by deputing a sub inspector from Ukhrul police station and as many as 450 people were brought to Ukhrul on December 25 last.
An official source also informed that the district administration helped in bringing a number of 20 students stranded at Senapati district headquarters on Christmas day, for which two Sumo vehicles were hired and the cost was covered by Ukhrul DC.
In this regard, it said that DC R Sudhan cordinated with his Senapati counterpart and sought assistance from officials of the United Naga Council and Naga Student's Federation.
Further, the official statement urged the public not to have any confusion over or doubt the concern of the district administration regarding the issue of stranded passengers.
