Imphal, January 03 2013:
Only if actor Momoco happened to be the daughter of Chief Minister O Ibobi or Home Minister Gaikhangam, the State government would have overran Chandel and arrested Livingstone on the day of the molestation itself, President of NIPCO Sunil Karam has contended while addressing a sit in protest demonstration staged against the Chandel incident at Lamlong Keithel today.
The sit in protest demonstration was attended by members of various clubs, organisations, Meira Paibis and women vendors of various markets in Imphal East district.
Addressing the gathering, Sunil Karam said that the state government would not have waited for the approval of the Centre for arresting Livingstone and no one would have seen the calm and silent nature of the government if Momoco happened to be the daughter of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh or Home Minister Gaikhangam.
He alleged that the issue has become bigger as the Chief Minister and the Home Minister have not acted promptly.
The denial of the Chief Minister to act by saying that Centre's approval is needed for arresting Livingstone and the statement of Home Minister in the State Assembly that government had instructed police to arrest the culprit is nothing but hogwash.
It was unfortunate that the Home Minister is trying to cover up his own mistake by alleging that CSOs should not initiate movement if they don't know how to handle the situation, Sunil said, and added that he too want to ask him to resign if he is not capable of holding the post of Home Minister.
In the Chandel incident, policemen on duty witnessed the whole scene but did nothing.
Likewise, the Napetpalli incident is an outcome of poor police performances, he countered.
Sunil Karam sarcastically observed that Manipur is an amazing state where the government kills those who shout for its integrity and welcome those with smile who are out to destroy the integrity of the state.
In the June 18 incident, 18 innocent people were killed by the security forces and on the other hand, Chief Minister Ibobi smiled and attended a function at Senapati when he was greeted with a banner which reads WELCOME TO SOUTH NAGALIM.
Executive Member of AMMIK, Narendra Ningomba said that the Napetpalli incident was not related with Film Forum Manipur, Shumang Lila Council and AMMIK.
Artists do not have the heart to retaliate everything with hatred and violence.
Their hearts are so fragile that they cry on seeing someone crying and laugh while seeing someone laughing.
As for the incident, Meira Paibis of Napetpalli and Nongren rounded up the culprits and handed them over to the police.
Now they are undergoing trial according to the law.
However, Livingstone is roaming freely and the state government is doing nothing to arrest him.
Even in this situation, the artists are not blaming the locals of Chandel for not rounding up Livingstone.
All they want from the government is to arrest the culprit and punish him accordingly, he added.
Other speakers also decried the Chandel and the Napetpalli incidents and called for necessary legal actions against the culprits.
