Opposition parties discuss Govt's silence over resolution on Chandel case

Opposition parties today convened a joint meeting and discussed the alleged silence of the Congress government in the State over the resolution of meeting the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister in connection with the Chandel incident as adopted during an all political parties' meeting on December 25 last.
In the meeting, it was resolved to send a delegation to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister in connection with the Chandel incident in which film actress Momoco was reportedly molested and assaulted by NSCN (IM) cadre Livingstone who also opened fire at two other male artistes during a musical concert at Chandel district headquarters on December 18.However, the State government is yet to take up any necessary action to translate the resolution adopted in the all political parties' meeting into action.
The joint meeting of the Opposition parties was held at the office premises of Janata Dal (United) at Babupara here today.
Attended by leaders of CPI, CPI(M), JD(U), BJP, MPP, MSCP, JD(S), Trinamool Congress, the meeting discussed the silence of the government over the matter and agreed to go on their own and meet the Prime Minister as well as the Union Home Minister even if the government fails act on the resolution.
It is said that the Opposition parties also contacted Home Minister Gaikhangam over the matter upon which, the later requested them to wait for a couple of days.
Following the request, the meeting agreed to wait for some days for the response of the government before they go to New Delhi on their own.
Besides the Chandel incident, the Opposition parties are also planning to inform the Centre about the rising incident of crimes and other issues afflicting the State during the meeting with the Central leaders.
Meanwhile, Core Committee of BJP Manipur Pradesh held a meeting later today and discussed the matter minutely.
However, the party would be announcing the resolutions of the meeting in a press meet tomorrow.
