Polytechnics to come up all in district: Okendro

Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro has informed that the Centre has given approval for setting up one polytechnic college in each of the nine districts of the state.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the 11th Foundation Day function of Democratic Students' Alliance Manipur (DESAM) at RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya Complex, North AOC.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Okendro pointed out that state has only one polytechnic college.
But soon, the state will have nine polytechnic colleges since the Centre has given its approval.
However, the colleges in different districts will have facilities for different streams so that students of a district can go to another district for their study and this would also help in promoting emotional integration.
Besides, the government is planning to open one women's college in each district.
The Minister went on to inform that the government is all set to implement Manipur Education Services from this year.
When the policy is implemented, 50 percent of recruitments in the school education will be direct recruitment while the remaining half will come from promotion.

Constructions of quarters for teachers in the hills districts are on the card.
Moreover, the government will be introducing vocational education in 27 different higher secondary schools of the state and for this, Centre would soon be releasing Rs 1 crore under the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
In order to improve education system in the Higher Secondary level, the government is discussing to appoint regular Principals and the objective will be accomplished early this year, the Minister assured.
He noted that now is not the time to blame one another but it is the time for collective efforts towards making the education system strong and effective.
The Government, teachers, CSOs, students and guardians should cooperate with each other and help in developing the education system for a bright future of the state, he urged.
Minister Okendro further said that there will be no room for corruption in the education system during his tenure and called upon the teachers not to dream of collecting riches but to teach the students properly.
He observed that post mortem will do nothing in education but taking up preventive measures will bring a better education system in the state.
He also informed that no more recruitment will be done in the education sector until and unless the government streamlines the adhoc and contract teachers.
DESAM President Wangmayum Isslauddin presided over the function which was also attended by Professor Ch Priyoranjan of Manipur University and former Additional Director of Higher Education RK Chaoba as Guests of Honour.
In his keynote address, DESAM Vice President Moirangthem Angamba pointed out that developed as well as developing countries in the world are taking up special efforts for the improvement of education system.
It is education which is necessary for development.
However education system in the state is very low and the government as well as the people of the state should dedicate themselves towards promoting the cause of education in the state.
On the occasion, Maichou Khongnangthaba Awards were conferred to Senior Economics Lecturer of N Tomchou Higher Secondary School Huidrom Jiten for Imphal West; Head Master of Waithou Mapal Junior High School Moirangthem Sanahal for Thoubal; Head Master of Lamlai High School Thangjam Rashi for Imphal East and Science Graduate teacher of Ningthoukhong High School, Pukhrambam Babu for Bishnupur district.
A blood donation camp was also organized as part of the foundation day function in which around 200 volunteers of DESAM donated blood.
