Dwijamani killing: Enquiry report submitted

The 3-member high power enquiry committee which was set up by the State Government to investigate into the killing of journalist Th.Dwijamani alias Nanao in police firing has submitted its six-page report to the Government.
The enquiry committee comprising Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) LM Khoute, and President of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union A Mobi was formed on December 23, 2012 following signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between AMWJU and the Government of Manipur.
During the course of the inquiry, the committee had recorded the statements of 16 persons including VDF personnel, journalists, human rights activists and civilians apart from studying three video clippings of the incident that led to the killing of journalist Dwijamani.
Dwijamani was killed in the police firing on December 23 during the indefinite general strike imposed by Film Forum Manipur and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council in collaboration with various social organizations in Manipur protesting against the Chandel incident wherein film artiste Kh Momoko was allegedly molested or assaulted by a self-styled Lt Col of NSCN-IM at a musical event on December 18.The journalist was covering the bandh when the fatal incident took place.
Notably, the state Government has offered a Primary teacher's post to Kh Narmada, wife of journalist Dwijamani as compensation, apart from giving an amount of Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia to the next of kin.
Meanwhile, AMWJU has convened a special joint meeting of all the Editors of both print and electronic media and the standing committee members of the Union on January 5 at 1 pm at Manipur Press Club, Imphal to discuss the enquiry report submitted to the Govt.in connection with the killing of Th.Dwijamani, to make a draft policy for the welfare of mediapersons and to amend the constitution among others.
