Christmas vacation ends on tragic note

A 54 year old man who had gone to Chungka village, near Phungyar in Ukhrul district for Christmas celebration with his wife was found killed today at Hatta village near Finch Comer.
Missing since December 29, the mortal remains of the man was found partially buried at Hatta village by a search party today evening.
A murder case under the relevant provisions of the IPC has been registered with Shangshak police, said a source.
The deceased identified as Laishram Ibohalbi had gone to the native place of his wife at Chungkar village near Phungyar for Christmas celebration.
Ibohalbi was a police Constable attached to the Reserve of Imphal West police.
While the wife stayed back at the village, Ibohalbi along with another villager from Chungka, headed towards Imphal on December 29 on a scooter as he had to attend a marriage ceremony.
On the way back to Imphal, they were reportedly stopped by a group of bandh enforcers at Finch Comer, said reports reaching here.
While the other villager was let off, Ibohalbi was assaulted there and that was the last time he was seen alive.
There is as yet no confirmation on whether a missing report was filed with the police or not.
The scooter used by the late man was also found burnt.
As soon as news of the discovery of the body was received, a police team led by the SDPO of Phungyar police along with an Executive Magistrate rushed to the site where the body was found, said sources.
The body will be brought to Imphal for necessary post mortem and other procedures tomorrow.
As news of the killing spread, local people of Yairipok gathered at the official quarters of the local MLA, Parliamentary Secretary, Kh Meghachandra today evening.
What transpired during the meeting however is not known.
