Missing cop found buried at abandoned jhum field in Ukhrul

Police have recovered on Friday the dead body of a missing cop from an abandoned jhum field near Finch Corner under the Shangshak police station in Ukhrul district.
The deceased policeman identified as Ibohalbi was reported missing since December 29 last from Finch Corner, 20km from Ukhrul town.
Police said the cop was suspected to have been murdered but the details could only be confirmed after conducting an autopsy of the dead body.
The deceased man, who hailed from Laishram Leikai of Yairipok, was said to be married to a Tangkhul woman from Chongka village under Phungyar sub-division of Ukhrul.
Police reports stated that the cop went missing on December 29 on his way to Imphal from Finch Corner which is located 60km from Imphal.
A reliable report said the incident could be the handiwork of some unidentified miscreants.
On Thursday afternoon around 3pm, a search party comprising the surrounding villagers accompanied by family members found the site where the dead body was buried nearby a hut in an abandoned jhum field.
A joint team of Ukhrul and Shangshak police have reached the site and exhumed the body this evening.
Later, the body has been taken to Imphal for post mortem.
Meanwhile, the representatives of frontal Tangkhul bodies also arrived at Finch Corner to express solidarity and condolence to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, expressing strong condemnation against the suspected murder of the policeman, the Tangkhul organisations have voiced their serious concerns and termed the incident as extremely unfortunate.
On hearing the news of the missing cop this evening, representatives of Tangkhul frontal bodies led by Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) rushed to Finch Corner to show solidarity and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) activist S.W.Asung, on behalf of all the Tangkhul civil bodies, expressed vehement condemnation against the alleged murder and termed the incident as the handiwork of vested interest individuals.
''The incident is extremely unfortunate and highly condemnable,'' he stated.
At a time when the situation is so sensitive in Manipur, the Tangkhul bodies appealed to all concerned for sanity to prevail and called for defusing any confusion among the communities living in the state.
''The unfortunate incident should not misconstrue on communal line.
We are extending fullest cooperation to nab the culprits,'' Asung appealed.
Meanwhile, the TKS representatives met the members of family and presented a shawl to show solidarity.
