Imphal, April 28 2015 :
Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), JNIMS unit has decided to suspend their stir and resume normal duties from tomorrow (April 29) following an assurance given by Health Minister Pungzathang Tonsing and Principal Secretary (Health) J Suresh Babu regarding their demands.
According to a nurse, who was taking part at the sit-in-protest staged at JNIMS complex today, the assurance was given in a meeting with the Health Minister and Principal Secretary held at the former's office chamber at around 4 pm yesterday.
During the meeting, the association representatives put all their demands one after the other, she added.
Among others, nurses' demands include framing of service rules, protection of nursing service, service regularization of DPC-faced contract nurses and equal salary without discrimination etc.
During the meeting, J Suresh Babu not only assured the nurses to discuss their demands at the next governing council meeting of JNIMS but also fervently appealed to them to suspend their ongoing stir, the nurse said.
Following this assurance and considering the inconvenience faced by the general public, the association decided to suspend their stir and resume normal duties from April 29, she said.
However, the association would resume their strike without any notice if the State Government fails to translate the assurance into action, the nurse said.
