Imphal, April 28 2015 :
A large number of volunteers of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) on Tuesday organised a rally demanding the State Government to take strict action against bandh and blockade enforcers.
DESAM volunteers formed a human chain from its office and later marched towards the Keishampat Bus Parking where they shouted slogans against imposition of frequent bandh and blockades in Manipur.
Many of the volunteers held placards that read "Exempt educational institutes from purview of any bandh," "Manipur has become a land of bandh and blockades," "Government must not invite bandh" and "Don't use bandh and blockades as means for raising demands." DESAM president Moirangthem Angamba told reporters that there have been 13 bandhs in the State so far since January 2015 .
He said, "The student community has to bear the brunt of such strikes and so we're raising our voices against this" .
Angamba reminded that the Supreme Court of India has ruled against the imposition of bandh and blockades and demanded that action must be taken against those sponsoring such strikes.
