Rape accused remanded till May 4

A 33-year-old man, who has been accused of raping a 27-year-old housewife at Lamdeng Khunou, has been remanded to police custody till May 4 by the Court of CJM, Imphal West today.
Accused Laiphrakpam Sana Ningthem (33) s/o L Inaobi of Lamdeng Makha Leikai was produced before the Court under FIR Number 21 (4) 2015 of Imphal West women police station under Section 447/354/376/ and 511 IPC.
He has been accused of raping the wife of a Chowkidar of a private school located at Lamdeng Khunou in Imphal West district.
The accused was arrested yesterday after he absconded for some days after committing the crime inside the quarters of the Chowkidar at around 8 pm on April 26 .
Taking advantage of the husband's absence as he went out to attend a marriage ceremony Sana Ningthem allegedly raped the woman by tying her hands and gagging her.
A medical examination of the woman was conducted at RIMS Forensic Department the same day.
Meanwhile, members of local clubs and meira paibees of Lamdeng Mayai Leikai, Lamdeng Awang Leikai and Lamdeng Mayai Leikai held a joint meeting at Popular School ground at Lamdeng Khunou today.
The meeting was also attended by the leaders of various women organizations and civil society bodies including SAKAL, Tammi Chingmi Apunba Nupi Marup and Malem Apunba Nupi Lup.
It was decided in the meeting to press the authority concerned to award life imprisonment to the culprit.
It was also resolved to urge the authority concerned not to release him on bail.
The gathering decided to ostracise the accused from the locality and issued a stern warning that anybody providing shelter to the accused would get the same punishment.
