Thoubal, April 28 2015 :
After the Canara Bank in the State failed to be included among the list of the designated Canara Banks in the country, students selected for Ishan Uday scholarship under the University Grants Commission (UGC) who had opened bank accounts in Canara Bank had to submit the required documents for the purpose in Guwahati, said a statement issued by Thoubal College Students' Union.
Questioning the purpose of opening its branch in the State if the bank cannot cater to the needs of the people, the statement said that selected students for UGC scheme were directed to open bank accounts only in Canara banks.
However, when a list of designated Canara Banks in the country was issued, Canara Bank in the State was not included.
Therefore, students had to go all the way to Guwahati to submit documents.
The situation has therefore created chaos and confusion among the students.
The authority concerned should consider the academic career of students and look into the matter immediately, the statement added.
