Imphal, March 24 2021:
Denouncing the Cabinet decision and processes to delete AKT (Any Kuki Tribe) from the recognised Scheduled Tribe list, Kuki Senior Citizens' Welfare Forum (KSCWF), Manipur has backed KSO's call for 48 hours total shutdown from March 26 .
The decision to support the KSO (Kuki Students' Organisation) was taken during an emergency executive meeting today, KSCWF said in a statement.
The State Cabinet on October 19, 2018 had taken the decision to delete AKT from the recognised Scheduled Tribe list.
This decision could have negative implications as it can deprive lakhs of people of their status as a recognised Scheduled Tribe.
The State Government should retract its decision and halt any processes to effect its decision, said KSCWF.
It added that the Government of Manipur must uphold and respect the Act of the Constitution and allow the Any Kuki Tribe to retain its status as ST under the Scheduled Tribes Orders (Amendment) Act 2002 (No 10 of 2003) .
It also appealed to the people to extend their support and help avoid any untoward incident during the total shutdown.
It may be noted that the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) had called the 48 hours total shutdown in the State mainly in all Kuki dominated areas from March 26 .
